Outstanding Moisture Resistance: The closed-cell design of XPS blocks water absorption, guarding against mold, mildew, and decay, making it ideal for bathrooms, showers, and kitchens.
Strong Compressive Strength: Offers a sturdy and solid base that can handle heavy weights without breaking or sinking, ensuring your tile floors stay free of cracks.
Top-notch Thermal Insulation: Greatly enhances the energy efficiency of your area by reducing heat loss through walls and floors, especially when paired with underfloor heating systems.
Lightweight & Easy to Manage: Much lighter than cement-based backer boards, making it easier and quicker to transport, handle, and install with less effort.
Simple to Cut & Mold: Can be effortlessly and cleanly cut with a utility knife or fine-tooth saw, allowing for precise customization around obstacles without creating harmful particles.
Steady & Consistently Sized: Will not bend, expand, or deteriorate over time, providing a long-lasting and dependable base that prevents tile and grout issues.
Effortless Installation System: Utilizes a tongue-and-groove mechanism for a secure, smooth connection that reduces heat loss and guarantees a flat surface.
Suitable for Underfloor Heating: Perfect for use with both electric and hydronic heating setups, offering superior heat dispersion and cost-effective energy usage.
1. What’s this board mainly used for?
Think of it as your wall's superhero cape! It’s designed to protect, insulate, and drain water in exterior walls. You install it right over the wall sheathing, and it tucks neatly behind your siding—whether that’s brick, stone, stucco, or other veneers.
2. Can I use it underground (in contact with soil)?
Absolutely! It’s tough enough for the job. With high compressive strength and amazing moisture resistance, it’s a fantastic choice for insulating foundation walls below grade.
3. How does it handle water?
Like a pro! The board has smart vertical channels built in that create a drainage plane. If any water sneaks behind the siding, these channels guide it quickly down and out, helping to keep your wall sheathing nice and dry.
4. What’s the R-value per inch?
It packs a cozy punch! You can typically expect about R-5 to R-5.6 per inch (please insert your product's exact R-value here). That means great thermal resistance without adding lots of bulk.
5. How do I cut and attach the boards?
Easy peasy! You can score and snap them with a utility knife, or use a fine-toothed saw. Attach them to the wall sheathing with corrosion-resistant screws or nails (with large washers), just follow your local building codes and our handy guidelines.
6. Do I still need a housewrap or building paper?
Great news—often not! One of the cool benefits of this system is that it usually takes the place of a separate housewrap. The board itself acts as both your weather-resistant barrier and drainage plane. (Always double-check your local building codes, though!)
7. Is it resistant to bugs and pests?
The material itself isn’t a tasty snack for pests. However, we always recommend following local best practices for termite and pest protection, which might include mechanical barriers or treatments—better safe than sorry!
8. What size are the standard panels?
They come in handy standard sizes, usually 2' x 8' or 4' x 8' (about 610mm x 2440mm). You’ll find them in common thicknesses from 1/2" to 2" (12mm to 50mm), so you can pick what fits your project best.
9. Does it contain any harmful chemicals?
We’re happy to say it’s made with the planet and your health in mind! Our board is free from CFCs, HCFCs, and formaldehyde, contributing to cleaner air both indoors and out.
10. Is this product up to code?
Yes indeed! It’s been tested and certified to meet relevant international building code standards for water-resistive barriers and insulation. For your specific project, we always recommend checking with your local building authority for final approval.
