Hanging rigid foam board is simple if you prep, cut, and secure it properly. First, clean and dry the wall, and fix any moisture issues. Measure twice, then cut the foam about ¼ inch small using a sharp knife and straightedge. For light craft foam, use adhesive strips or Velcro. For rigid insulation, apply foam-friendly construction adhesive in a zigzag, press the board up, and screw through plastic cap washers into studs. For a finished wall, add furring strips and cover with drywall. Seal gaps with low-expansion spray foam. Never leave rigid foam exposed in living spaces—cover it with an approved thermal barrier. Avoid crushing wires, and keep foam away from non-IC lights. Wear safety glasses. Work with a friend, take breaks, and check local codes. Done right, your wall will be warmer, cleaner, and ready for the next step.
